GST Registration in Chennai: A Step-by-Step Guide for 2026
If you run a business in Chennai with turnover above ₹20 lakh (services) or ₹40 lakh (goods), GST registration is mandatory. This guide walks you through the full process — from documents to GSTIN issuance — based on the latest 2026 rules.
Step 1: Gather your PAN, Aadhaar, business address proof, bank details and a passport-size photo. For Pvt Ltd and LLP, you also need a Digital Signature Certificate and board resolution.
Step 2: Visit the GST portal and file Form GST REG-01. You'll get a Temporary Reference Number (TRN), followed by an Application Reference Number (ARN) once documents are uploaded.
Step 3: The proper officer reviews your application within 7 working days. If they raise queries via GST REG-03, respond within 7 days using GST REG-04.
Step 4: Once approved, your 15-digit GSTIN is issued in Form GST REG-06. You can now legally collect GST and claim Input Tax Credit.
Common reasons for rejection in Chennai include mismatched address proof, blurry document uploads, and incorrect HSN/SAC codes. Our advocates handle the entire process end-to-end so you avoid these pitfalls.
