Basic Registration is for turnover up to ₹12 L. State Licence is for ₹12 L–₹20 cr. Above ₹20 cr or any import/export → Central Licence.
Do home bakers and cloud kitchens need FSSAI?
Yes. Any home-based food business selling for profit needs at least a Basic Registration — Swiggy, Zomato & Dunzo refuse to onboard without it.
How long is FSSAI Registration valid?
1 to 5 years (you choose at filing). We recommend 5 years to save renewal hassle. Renewal must be filed at least 30 days before expiry.
What is the penalty for operating without FSSAI?
Up to ₹2 lakh fine and / or imprisonment up to 6 months under Section 63 of the FSS Act.
